This position serves as an analytic resource to the HBI organization by performing analytic modeling and simulation for key HBI initiatives. This position analyzes complex data streams using advanced analytic tools and techniques with objectives such as optimizing working capital investment, optimizing customer service and inventory investment, supply chain network optimization, effective demand management (demand sensing), process automation, and support of Merger & Acquisition activities. The scope of this position includes functions and processes that support nearly $5.0 billion in sales, involve more than 190,000 products, and span the globe with more than 150 manufacturing locations.


Incumbent supports the Modeling & Simulation team by translating complex data into actionable information for data driven business decisions. Incumbent works both independently and collaboratively to prepare comprehensive analysis and business cases using both advanced software modeling tools and analytical techniques that may include: analytical model development, descriptive and predictive modeling, time series modeling, data mining, pattern identification, segmentation, regression analysis, simulation, and optimization. Incumbent will develop business cases that credibly communicate analytical results to many levels of the organization, across all functional areas and include interactions with Executive and Senior Management.


1.  Develop and validate advanced analytic models in support of key HBI initiatives for all business channels:

  • Acquires, mines, and analyzes data using valid analytical methods
  • Proactively supports HBI functional personnel with specific recommendations that address real business problems that are often ambiguous in nature
  • Develops analytic models and simulations to predict, classify, quantify, describe, and/or forecast business metrics for the purpose of supporting data driven decision making
  • Collaborates with HBI functional personnel to understand key business dynamics and adjust strategies appropriately
  • Develops and utilizes key management reports to monitor and identify areas of concern and areas where strategies are working well
  • Investigates problems for root causes and provides recommended solutions
  • Ensures the availability of optimal decision making tools for management and the HbI end-user community
  • Under direction, identifies and shapes analytic modeling and simulation opportunities and then drives supporting actions to realize the determined opportunity
  • Following established best practices, delivers high quality, cost effective analytical solutions


2.  Prepares results and recommendations of analytic efforts for presentation. The ability to credibly produce the following is a critical job function:

  • Statistical data: tables, charts, and graphs
  • Evidence relevant to cause and effect
  • Evidence relevant to decision making
  • Fundamental strategy and analytical design of models
  • Insurance of data validity


3.  Provides ad hoc analysis, reports, and special projects to management to support business decisions and to aid in the resolution of business issues as required.


4.  Engages with Production Planning, Material Planning, Sourcing, Marketing, CMG, Customer Ops, Logistics, Engineering, Forecasting, PMO, Finance, and Procurement departments to align on key strategies and to identify and resolve issues.


5.  Interfaces with HbI functional areas (customers) on technical issues associated with analytic model credibility requirements. Work is checked through consultation and agreement with customers and in conjunction with formal review by Modeling & Simulation management.



Minimum Education and Experience Required:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Analytics, Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, Management Science, Computer Science, or related field
  • 2-5 years of experience in relevant analytic or simulation modeling
  • Practical experience with some or all of the following tools: Base SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Enterprise Miner, SAS Forecast Studio, SAS JMP, R, Oracle CrystalBall, IBM LogicNetPlus, IBM IPFA, and Arena
  • Demonstrated knowledge of some or all of the following: multivariate regression, logistic regression, decision tree, optimization, discrete event simulation, Monte Carlo simulation, predictive modeling, pattern identification, demand sensing, time series (forecasting), and segmentation
  • Expert skills in data analysis with preference given to candidates with work experience in SAS and JMP statistics packages
  • Practical knowledge of manipulating, cleansing, aggregating, and compiling analytic data
  • Practical knowledge of relational databases including ability to write SQL
  • Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others in a matrix organization are critical
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • Mastery of MS Office tools is require

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the above fields is preferred
  • Experience in the consumer goods industry is preferred
  • Simulation experience is a significant plus
  • Lean/6 Sigma experience is a significant plus
  • Basic Foreign Language Skills
